ImFromDriftwood.com: True stories by LGBTQ people from all over.
We envision a world where every lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer person feels understood and accepted, and every straight and cisgender person is an ally.
I’m From Driftwood aims to help LGBTQ people learn more about their community, straight and cisgender people learn more about their neighbors and everyone learn more about themselves through the power of storytelling and story sharing.
MEET THE INTERNS!
Peter (left) and Holly (right), IFD’s 2012 summer interns, are about to finish up their term and head back to school. Before they bid us adieu, here’s what they had to say about what they’ve done for IFD so far, how they discovered IFD, and which superpower they’d choose, among other things:
HOLLY
Where are you from originally? What school do you go to?
I was born in Georgia and grew up in Kentucky. Now, I go to Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
How did you find out about I’m From Driftwood?
I read about IFD at the The New Gay, a late queer culture blog I dearly miss.
What’s your favorite IFD story?
Alan Cumming’s!
What are some of the things you’ve done this Summer for IFD?
So far, I have asked for a donation from a Dan Savage-approved sex shop, taken a lot of classes on grantseeking, and researched ebook publishing as well as the impact of storytelling.
What are your plans after graduation?
I know I’ll write poetry. I hope I’ll be employed in a marketing or development office.
You get one super power. What is it?
Revive The New Gay from its web death.
What’s your spirit animal?
I was going to go with a wolf puppy, but my brother, who knows me best, says I’m more of a goat or echinda.

PETER
Where are you from originally? What school do you go to?
I’m from NYC originally, but I now go to Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA… It’s a really interesting change from Greenwich Village, I must say. Everyone always asks why I would ever leave the city for Central Pennsylvania, but it really has opened my eyes to the “real” world.
How did you find out about I’m From Driftwood?
I think Towleroad posted a video story from IFD when I was a junior in high school. I started following the website and pretty soon got in touch with Nathan and did a video story of my own. (Watch Peter’s video story here.)
What’s your favorite IFD story?
That’s a reallllllyyyy tough question! I honestly can’t pick a favorite. I think that everyone’s stories are unique and special, and that’s the point of IFD. Is this a cop out? Maybe, but I still believe it ;)
What are some of the things you’ve done this Summer for IFD?
I’ve managed IFD’s Facebook and Twitter presences, helped to recruit donations of raffle and silent auction items for IFD’s Summer BBQ Fundraiser, and have also done a couple of research projects.
What are your plans after graduation?
That’s the million dollar question, and I’m not sure what the answer is. Grad School in Public Policy? We shall see… anything to defer my entrance into this amazing job market.
You get one super power. What is it?
Teleportation. I can’t stand traffic or waiting for the subway.
What’s your spirit animal?
I have never been asked this question before… For what it’s worth, according to some quiz I just found online, I am a Hawk.
