Small Works for Big Change, the annual benefit event supporting the Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP), will be held at 6pm Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Jack Studios in New York. Now in its seventh year, this vibrant annual celebration reflects the radical spirit of SRLP and the experimental energy of some of New York’s most innovative contemporary artists, both established and emerging. 100% of the event’s proceeds will benefit SRLP’s advocacy work for transgender communities. The event is free and open to the public.

NEW YORK - Small Works for Big Change, the annual benefit event supporting the Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP), will be held at 6pm Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Jack Studios in New York. Now in its seventh year, this vibrant annual celebration reflects the radical spirit of SRLP and the experimental energy of some of New York’s most innovative contemporary artists, both established and emerging. 100% of the event’s proceeds will benefit SRLP’s advocacy work for transgender communities. The event is free and open to the public. A silent auction with bidding starting as low as $10 will feature works by over sixty-five artists, including:
- Patty Chang’s Lying 4 (2011)
- Ulrike Mueller’s Blau (with a photograph by Sherif Sonbol) (2011)
- Genesis BREYER P-ORRIDGE Pandrogyne Cub e (2010)
- R.H. Quaytman’s Point de Gaze, Chapter 23 (2011)
- Emily Roysdon’s “Surprise…you’re pregnant!” (2007-2009)
- Amy Sillman’s “Bearded Lady” (1997)
Hosted by performance and spoken-word artists Glenn Marla and Kit Yan, the event will also include performances by Alicia Ohs as Madame Wantan, Lana Carroll of The Low and the Lonesome, Rude Mechanical Orchestra and music from DJ Shomi Noise.

SRLP is a leading national innovator for legal advocacy and movement building on behalf of transgender communities. SRLP’s work addresses both the root causes and effects of discrimination and violence on the basis of gender identity and expression. Since its inception in 2002, SRLP has won precedent-setting lawsuits and policy victories for transgender communities and has provided free legal services to over 1,500 low-income people and people of color who are transgender, intersex, or gender non-conforming.
